The International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development 2025, organised by the Yangang Tourism Development Committee (YTDC) in collaboration with the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, brought together young leaders, tourism professionals, policymakers and delegates from India and abroad for a three-day celebration of sustainable tourism, cultural exchange and youth empowerment.
Held as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations marking 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood, the Conclave was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) on 12 April 2025.
The event welcomed participants from 17 Indian states, four Union Territories and neighbouring countries, including Nepal and Bhutan, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue, collaboration and new ideas in tourism development.
The three-day programme featured panel discussions, expert sessions, heritage walks, cultural exchanges, adventure activities, traditional food and handicraft exhibitions, and engagements with local entrepreneurs. Sessions also explored community-based tourism, environmental sustainability, education and mental health awareness.
A major highlight was the participation of Sikkim University, tourism experts and local stakeholders in discussions on how tourism could create sustainable livelihoods while preserving the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
The Conclave also witnessed the official launch of the YTDC website by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
More than an international gathering, the Conclave marked an important step in Yangang’s journey towards becoming a vibrant destination for sustainable, community-driven tourism, showcasing the region’s potential while placing youth and local communities at the centre of its development.
