Yangang Set to Emerge as Sikkim’s Next Big Tourism Hub

A joint inspection of the Yangang Cultural Park was conducted under the leadership of Hon’ble Deputy Speaker and Area MLA, Ms. Raj Kumari Thapa, accompanied by Principal Secretary, Tourism Department Mr. C.S. Rao; Secretary, IPR Department Ms. Annapurna Alley; Principal Chief Engineer Mr. Neeraj Pradhan; OSD to the Hon’ble Chief Minister (Political Affairs) Mr. Karma Subba; members of the Yangang Tourism Development Committee (YTDC); and other key stakeholders.

Spanning 22.26 acres, the park is set for major revamp and upgradation, with work to begin at the earliest. The initiative aims to transform the cultural complex into a vibrant tourism landmark that celebrates Yangang’s heritage and boosts the local economy.

Initially developed by the RDD, the park was later handed over to the IPR Department. With tourism now taking centre stage, the Tourism Department will resume full oversight to ensure its complete transformation.

A key decision taken during the inspection was the implementation of a new checkpost system within 15 days. This will allow foreign tourists to travel to North Sikkim via the Yangang-Mangan route, bypassing Gangtok and reducing congestion—an important step in streamlining tourist flow and positioning Yangang as a vital tourism corridor.

The inspection also included a review of preparations for the International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development, to be held in Yangang from April 11–14, 2025. The conclave will host 176 delegates from across India and countries including Nepal, Bhutan, and Iran, and will focus on sustainable tourism and Sikkim’s 50th year of Statehood.

The YTDC has requested full media support from the IPR Department to ensure extensive publicity for the conclave. With clear intent, strong government backing, and a united local effort, Yangang is ready to rise as one of Sikkim’s premier tourism destinations.
